Having an ideal body weight is not just a matter of aesthetics. Scientists find the reason why they are overweight or obese susceptible to chronic health problems like heart disease and diabetes.

They do research by looking specifically the possibility of metabolic syndrome in obese people. This syndrome is generally characterized symptoms of increased blood pressure, increased blood sugar, excess abdominal fat and cholesterol levels beyond the boundary.

In that study, they found the fat cells release the indicators associated with insulin resistance and chronic inflammation of the heart and blood vessels. "Some fat can be harmful to the body," said Ishwarlal Jialal, professor of endikronologi, diabetes, and metabolism of UC Davis, as quoted by the Times of India.

Jialal prove the high-risk metabolic syndrome in people who suffer from obesity. However, he said that this metabolic syndrome can be cured through diet and exercise to lose weight to the ideal limit.

Jialal doing this research for 34 years. The main issue is patient too late to do prevention. "Once people affected by cardiovascular disease or diabetes, it was too late and very expensive medical bills," said Jialal as written in the journal Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

They are classified as obese had a body mass index (BMI) over 30. While obese people are limited on a scale of 25-30, and the ideal body for 18.5 to 24.9.

BMI is calculated from weight (kilograms) divided by height squared (square meters). As an illustration, a person weighing 70 kilograms and 160 centimeters in height has a BMI of 27.4 kilograms per square meter. Figures that sets it in the obese category number comes after 70 kilograms divided by 2.56 square feet (1.6 meters x 1.6 meters).
