Jakarta, to acknowledge the intersex and transgender people, Australians have the choice of the third sex in his passport. What about in Indonesia? Is the passport as it is distinguished from the male and female?

Head of the Population and Family Planning (BKKBN) Sugiri Syarief rate, the existence of a third gender will not be recognized in Indonesia because it conflicts with prevailing norms.

"Ah it's still a long time. Our society can not accept any gender other than male and female. The social constellation, it is difficult to get recognition in Indonesia," said Sugiri in conversation with reporters at the Office of BKKBN, Halim Perdanakusuma, Friday (16 / 9
/ 2011).

Even so Sugiri admit, there was a third gender and both need equal rights. Transgender persons are formed due to environmental factors can still be overcome, such as transvestites are conditioned because his parents wanted a daughter and son dressed like that since childhood.

But there are some people who are genetically different, so its existence remains to be appreciated. Although not a formal recognition from the government, the attitude of respect as fellow human beings can be realized by not treating it as discriminatory.

As is known the Australian government will be applying a third gender in passports. According to the Australian government, this policy has done to respect the rights of transgender and intersex. When checked at the airport, these groups are often detained for longer because it looks different from the gender listed on his passport.

Not just at the airport, discrimination against transgender or intersex are also common elsewhere in health care is no exception. In At the hospital, for example, a transgender in critical condition does not immediately get help but instead a laughingstock because of his appearance is different from the existing gender in identity card.

Although often considered abnormal, in fact there are some people who are born as intersex or having sex is not clear. That is seen from the chromosome as well as secondary sexual signs, that person can not be said exclusively as male or female.

In addition there are also transgender, that does not correspond with the psychological tendency of sex physically. Transgender persons who later underwent hormone therapy or surgery to adjust his physical with the psychological tendency is referred to as transsexual.

In some countries including Australia, the existence of intersex and transgender people to be recognized to provide assurances of equal rights. If those rights are not protected, people can get discriminated against because of the different properties of the two sexes are considered more normal that men and women.
